Kilo Bravo cruises past the Specials in the battle for sponsor bragging rights. With Kate on the road with her new band, her 2 teams would meet on the field Saturday. Her namesake, KBs, would score in each of the first 3 innings to grab a quick 6-2 lead, which they would hold on to for the rest of the game. Baby Boy would hit his 3rd homer of the young season, while Katie and Jody combined for 4 hits and 4 RBIs. Karl France added a late 2-run bomb for Soft Spot, but it wouldn’t be enough. The final tally was 15-8 in favor of Kilo and both squads would hang out together for the rest of the evening at the winning bar!
The defending champs held off an upstart Bears squad by the narrowest margin on Saturday. After jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning, Eddie’s squad went quiet until the late innings and allowed the Archive to creep their way back into the game. Eventually down only 3 in the 8th, the Bears would tie up the game with a clutch rally…only to surrender the winning run in the bottom half of the frame. The final score was 8-7 and got BD their 2nd win of the young season. The Archive fell to 1-3 on the year, but put the league on blast with a solid effort.
The full 2016 season schedule is completed. The season will kick off on Saturday April 4th with a Field 1 match up of Kilo Bravo vs Gibson and a Field 2 match up of Mables vs Archive. We will try to start early April games at 3:30pm (or soon after) to make sure we get in the later games. Please do your best to get to the fields on time and get games started on time. Defending champs Balls Deep will take on Softspot on Field 1 in the later match ups with Levee and Matchless rounding out the week one games on Field 2.

Balls Deep Manager Eddie Seeya lead his team to an impressive 13-3 regular season record and then powered through the playoffs with wins over Matchless, Mables (last year’s winners) and Kilo Bravo. Once Balls Deep secured first place during the regular season, they never gave it up and finished their season drinking out of the McCarren League Trophy at the Turkey’s Nest. It was an impressive season for the first time champs and with the roster they put together they will be a tough team to dethrone in 2016.
Congrats to Eddie and the rest of the Balls Deep Team.
Round one is over and all higher seeds advanced to the second round except for RSC. Round 2 will be this Saturday at 4pm and feature top seed Balls Deep going up against last year’s champs Mables and two seed Kilo Bravo matching up with Soft Spot.
During the regular season, Balls Deep took both games against Mables but no one would be surprised if the playoffs wake up Mables and they found their way back to the finals to defend their crown. Kilo and Soft Spot split their season series with Kilo taking the first game and Soft Spot taking the most recent. Both games should be entertaining and if the higher seeds win, you will find two teams in the finals who have never been before (at least in their current form with their current name). Good luck all!

Hello Players, Fans and Friends of the WSL!
As many of you may, or may not know, one of our former players in the WSL, Andy Becker, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon Cancer. He is currently recovering from a partial colon removal while undergoing several scans and biopsies to determine a chemotherapy treatment plan and the potential need for additional surgeries on his liver. You can read more about his status and treatment on his page his sister set up here: https://
Andy (first ballot Hall of Famer in the WSL) played for Black Betty and helped bring down the Black Curtain on the league for many years. He moved back to Missouri a couple years back, but has still managed to come into town to visit us, hang out, even win another championship with the Betty.
This kid. This is a good kid. Lots of people have reached out to me to ask what we can do for him. It’s really awesome! And we do need to do something. With that being said, we’d like to dedicate our WSL Opening Day Party to Andy, and see if we can raise some money to assist in his medical bills.
The party is still tentatively scheduled for April 11th. So, I’d like to put together a committee that can assist in coming up with ideas to raise money, to help out, and in general, pitch in so we can have a successful party and fundraiser.
If you are interested and want to help out, please email me here: email@example.com
Even if you just have an idea, feel free to reach out to me. Any and all assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Let’s look out for one of our own!
To make up the games we missed on April 13, due to muddy conditions of McCarren Park, and a rain out on May 11, we have added two weeks to the season.
Games originally scheduled on April 13, will be played on August 24. Those games are:
- Roebling Room @ Spritzenhaus (Field 1)
- Matchless @ Bears (Field 2)
- Soft Spot @ Balls Deep (Field 1)
- Mables @ Gibson (Field 2)
Games originally scheduled on May 11, will be played on September 7.
- Roebling Room @ Matchless (Field 1)
- Soft Spot @ Gibson (Field 2)
- Balls Deep @ Levee (Field 1)
- Bears @ Mables (Field 2)
The schedule has been updated.
After much waiting, our permits have arrived. Today, we can officially announce that the season will start on Saturday, April 6. Rejoice!
Construction work in McCarren Park however continues. I didn’t see the fallen light pole when I rode my bike past the park this morning. But I did see a construction crew working on the walkways. Because there has been measurable progress on the paths, it seems entirely reasonable to expect our fields to be ready for our gentle abuse on April 6.
With the permits in hand, we have the necessary information to produce a schedule. You can find that here by April 1, following Saturday’s super-secret managers’ meeting, which will be held in an underground bunker below the Newtown Creek.
Softball Fever. It’s Back. Inoculate Yourself!
Each member of the Saturday/Sunday McCarren Park Softball leagues will receive a Membership card for the Soft Spot Softball 2013 Raffle!!
Present your membership card at The Soft Spot each time you buy a $4 Bud Light during the season and fill out a raffle ticket!
$1 from each purchase goes towards the creation and maintenance of four different first aid kits, one for each field on Saturday and Sunday. A second dollar from each purchase goes into the cash prize kitty!!!! One winner will be announced at the end of the season. The Soft Spot will keep a cash tally running in the bar as the season progresses. The more Bud Light you buy, the bigger the cash prize gets!!!
Membership cards required to play. We only want Ballers to be the cash winners!!
Get excited, everyone. Softball season throughout Brooklyn, including our league, will start on April 6.
We’re still waiting for two things:
* Our permits to arrive. They are “in the mail.”
* The removal of the light post that fell during Superstorm Sandy.
Once our permits arrive, we can draft a schedule, which we will distribute to managers as soon as possible.
